AGE. 45

INSTRUMENT. Tobias Classic 5 string bass. Ibanez BTB1005 5 string bass
Amp - Marshall VBA400 all-valve 400w
Cabs - Ashdown Mini 408 4x8" and Ashdown Mini 115 1x15"

JOINED THE BAND. Right from the start, following a gruelling audition
process which included copious amounts of Stella. Passed with flying
colours.

ANY FORMAL MUSICAL EDUCATION. None - completely self-taught. If you gave
me a sheet of music I'd join the dots. Started when I was fifteen and have
been in and out of bands right through to present.

INFLUENCES OTHER THAN STEELY DAN. 70s and 80s funk, Average White Band,
Earth Wind and Fire, Doobie Bros, Ace, Stanley Clarke, Bernard Edwards,
Marcus Miller, Hendrix.. Drinking influences: Gary Davies, Rob Rolph, Steve
Hayes.

FAVOURITE STEELY DAN SONG(S). Glamour Profession, Gaucho, Kid Charlemagne,
Jack of Speed, Gaslighting Abbie, Peg, Babylon Sisters.

FAVORITE NEARLY DAN MOMENT. First gig at Wheatsheaf, Stoke and
Glastonbury 2000.

PRE GIG DRINK / QUANTITY.
Water - brewed with the finest barley, malt and
hops, and reassuringly expensive. Too much (some people reckon).

ESSENTIAL LISTENING. The Nightfly. Any Earth, Wind and Fire album,
Santana 'Abraxas' and Doobie Bros 'What Were Once Vices . . '

COMMENT. Although the material can be challenging at times, playing this
stuff has provided a great learning experience for me. As a bassist, the
song I'd love to do is Gaslighting Abbie, but thankfully nobody has. (er. Pete I might have some news for you!! - gaz.)
